Professional Development Plan
o INTRODUCTION
As I work towards my teacher certification I want to clarify my professional development goals. This will keep them in the forefront of my mind as I continue my studies. I want to take responsibility for the success of my future career. I aim towards being the kind of teacher that students respect and enjoy having as their teacher. I would like to use this professional development plan to line up my goals so that I can achieve this high standard. o KNOWLEDGE AREA GOALS Standard I: A beginning teacher can describe the teacher’s philosophy of education and demonstrate its relationship to the teacher’s practice. Standard II: A beginning teacher understands how students learn and develop and applies that knowledge to the teacher’s practice. Standard III: A beginning teacher teaches students with respect for their individual and cultural characteristics. o METHODS Standard I: I will use the Madeline Hunter lesson plan model. I will write and go by lesson plans that meet my philosophy of education. I will use these lesson plans to teach objectives and to be more organized. I will use my philosophy of education to demonstrate an understanding of learning theory I will adapt my teaching strategies on a day-to-day basis to reach all learning styles. Standard II: I will work to understand how students learn and develop. I will use Gardners’ Multiple Intelligences when making lesson plans. I will have open communication with parents/guardians about their student and the environment they flourish in. Standard III: I will work to teach students with respect for their individual and cultural characteristics by remembering that every student is a unique individual that learns in a way different from their neighboring student. I will tailor my lesson plans to meet the needs of my students. I will make sure that I utilize community resources, from speakers to materials, for much of this would be useful in my classroom. Standard IV: I will work to understand and meet the GREs, the AK State Learning Standards, the district curriculum, and the expectations of teachers by reading, discussing, and questioning all expectations so that I gain a fuller understanding and can implement them all. Standard V: I will use many methods of assessment including but not limited to performance assessment, authentic assessment, formative assessment, and assessment for learning so that all students can be assessed as fairly as possible. I will track my students progress so that I can be held accountable for their education. Standard VI: I will work to understand district discipline policy by reading and discussing school board policy. I will use the physical arrangement of classroom by using seating to maintain control and to promote learning and cooperation. I will create and maintain a learning environment in which all students are actively engaged and contributing members. |

Standard VI: A beginning teacher creates and maintains a learning environment in which all students are actively engaged and contributing members. Standard VII: A beginning teacher works as a partner with parents, families, and the community. Standard VIII: A beginning teacher participates in and contributes to the teaching profession. Standard VII: I will work to promote family and community involvement by knowing the cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds of members of the school community and by reviewing their backgrounds with staff and community in an effort to enhance relationships. I will identify channels for parent/teacher communication by using parent teacher conferences to set up a preferred method of communication. I will communicate frequently and relay the positive actions of students. Standard VIII: I will continually work to extend my education by attending classes and workshops so that I am able to keep up with the developing trends in education. |
CONCLUSION
I am working towards all of these goals using the methods listed. The hope is that one day I will successfully reach these goals and that my classroom will be a place for children to feel safe while they learn and explore the world around them.
